New York Canals

The Champlain Canal follows the Hudson River about 37 miles to Lock 7 and Fort Edward.  The last 23 miles are man made.  There are 11 locks - 1 to 12.  No Lock 10.

The canal begins in Waterford and ends in Whitehall at Lock 12.

Before the canal, boat travel ended at Fort Edward.  Boats were then dragged and carried to Lake George.

Today, a free dock, electricity and water greet the traveler.

Another free high wall dock with water, electricity and a nearby restroom with showers.

We enjoyed the best meals of the entire New York cruise at the Finch & Chubb Restaurant in Whitehall, just beyond Lock 12.
